Augmented Practice-Room (APR)

Musical performance is strongly influenced by the acoustic properties of the venue. Typcially, this musicians learn this influence at a late stage of their education as concert halls are not available for practicing. The project "Augmented Practice-Room" creates an environment with acoustically augmented reality that makes the acoustics of the concert hall come alive already in the practice room. The special feature of this environment is that the direct sound of the instrument is maintained and thus the natural style of playing despite time-consuming computation of the acoustic simulation. The project is accompanied by research in educational sciences to evalute the effect of the „Augmented Practice-Room“ on groups of students with different age and musical experience.

The project is conducted by the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics at University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in cooperation with Johann-Joseph-Fux Konservatorium.
